How these estimates are calculated
Place, currency and tax. Prices are for Canada, in CAD (C$). They exclude GST, HST and any provincial tax. Which of them applies, and at what rate, depends on the province and, for provincial tax, on the kind of service. The range is a national average. When you pick your province, the calculator scales the labour share of the range by a local index from 0.85 to 1.24. The calculator does not quote below its minimum price, C$190 at the national average.
Where the range comes from. The market range for this job comes from prices published for Canada by marketplaces where customers hire pros. We name these sources by type, not by company. We check the hourly rates against Job Bank wage data, and for lawn care the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association wage survey. A trade's rate should sit well above what its workers earn, because it also pays for overhead, travel and insurance.
When we checked. We last checked these rates against their sources on September 30, 2026.
Market price and your price. "What pros charge" is the market range for the job you describe. Your own cost figures do not change it. The table under it, "Your costs at this price", uses your figures: time on the job, labour cost, materials, equipment, travel, fees and overhead. Profit is the market price minus those costs. If no market range covers the job, the calculator prices it from your costs instead: your costs plus overhead, then your target margin or markup.
Plumbing quotes go wrong when the price is set before the access is understood. The calculator above starts from
published Canadian rates for the job, then adds what the reality of the site does to it.
How the calculator works
- Pick the job. Each job carries a Canadian price band in CAD for the finished work.
- Say how hard it is to reach. Crawl spaces, finished walls and second-floor bathrooms add hours to the same job.
- Your province. Rates scale by a provincial labour-cost index.
- Check what you keep. Open “Your costs and margin” for hours, parts and profit at the market price.

| Toilet repair | C$150–C$400 | Parts usually included |
| Faucet installation | C$200–C$700 | Depends on shut-off condition |
| Leak repair | C$200–C$550 | Access drives the number |
| Water heater, tank | C$1,200–C$2,600 | Tankless C$2,500–4,500 |
| Sewer line repair | C$2,000–C$6,000 | Excavation and permits extra |
Figures are before GST or HST and assume business hours. Provincial tax also applies to plumbing repairs: 6% PST in
Saskatchewan and 7% RST in Manitoba. An emergency call-out fee runs C$130–455 and often includes the first hour of
labour.
Worked example
A drain cleaning in a finished basement in Ontario with tight, awkward access: the national band is C$200–600, the
access centres the quote high, and it lands near C$410 before HST. The calculator counts 2.5 hours of labour at
C$45 an hour cost plus C$36 in parts, and the job leaves you about C$222 at that price.
Quoting plumbing work in Canada
- Quote the diagnosis separately. The call-out fee pays for the trip, and the hours bill on top of it. Say so in
the quote, so the client does not expect the fee to come off the repair. It is easier to sell than a free visit
you pay for.
- Write the exclusions down. Restoration after opening a wall, permits and municipal inspections are the three
things clients assume are included.
- Charge properly for after-hours. A Saturday night call is worth twice a Tuesday morning one, and Canadian
clients expect that.
The calculator gives you the number. For typical rates and how to build a quote, read our US plumbing pricing guide. Its rates are in US dollars.
Frequently asked questions
What do plumbers charge per hour in Canada?
Licensed plumbers bill C$60–200 an hour in 2026, and most homeowners pay C$80–120 for standard work. Toronto runs about C$90–140 and Vancouver C$90–130. After-hours and emergency work is C$200–350 an hour plus a call-out fee.
Should I charge a call-out fee?
Yes. A trip fee of C$75–200 is standard across Canada, and the hours on the job bill on top of it. It protects you on the jobs that turn out to be five minutes of work.
What does drain cleaning cost?
Between C$200 and C$600 depending on how far the clog sits, whether it needs a camera and which tool clears it. Main-line work with a camera inspection sits at the top.
What should I quote for a water heater?
A standard tank replacement runs C$1,200–2,600 installed and tankless units C$2,500–4,500. Permit and venting requirements vary by municipality — check before you quote.
How much do I mark up parts?
No Canadian source we checked prints a standard parts markup for plumbing, so the calculator does not use one. The market bands already include the parts a client pays for. Enter what the parts cost you to see what the job leaves.
