Canadian lawn pricing has one strong source and one weak one, and they measure different things. The association’s wage survey — 347 companies, prepared by an agricultural human resource council — gives charge-out rates by province. The per-visit brackets come from an editorial site that states no methodology. The calculator uses the brackets for the price and the association for the hourly check, and says so.
How the calculator works
- Lawn size picks the bracket. Four brackets of mown area, not property area — the source says “small lawns” outright.
- Schedule raises the price. Weekly is the base and every two weeks 1.50 times it. The only other Canadian reading is a one-off visit at 2.06 times, and the calculator uses it for “Every four weeks” because no Canadian source prices a four-weekly visit. That is the steepest schedule step of the five markets on this site, about 12–28% steeper than the American one.
- Overgrown adds about 40% on top, as its own line.
- Your province. Prices are adjusted by a provincial labour-cost index.
- Your economics. “Your costs and margin” works in person-hours, the unit the charge-out rates are in.
Typical Canadian mowing prices in 2026
| Lawn size | Weekly | Every two weeks | One-off |
|---|---|---|---|
| To 1,000 sq ft | C$25–C$50 | C$38–C$75 | C$52–C$103 |
| 1,000–3,000 sq ft | C$45–C$80 | C$68–C$120 | C$93–C$165 |
| 3,000–5,000 sq ft | C$70–C$100 | C$105–C$150 | C$144–C$206 |
| Over 5,000 sq ft | C$90–C$150 | C$135–C$225 | C$185–C$309 |
The one-off column is what the calculator charges for a visit every four weeks. Crews bill C$46–C$70 per person-hour, and C$63.75 is the median of the eight provincial figures. Minimum charge around C$25. All figures exclude GST/HST.
Charge-out rates by province, from the association survey
| Province | Maintenance | Installation |
|---|---|---|
| Nova Scotia | C$70.00 | C$75.00 |
| Ontario | C$69.00 | C$82.00 |
| Alberta | C$68.75 | C$80.00 |
| British Columbia | C$65.00 | C$70.00 |
| Quebec | C$62.50 | C$84.50 |
| Saskatchewan | C$62.50 | C$63.50 |
| New Brunswick | C$55.00 | C$65.00 |
| Manitoba | C$46.00 | C$60.00 |
Installation runs above maintenance everywhere, but only by 1.14 times at the median — where American vendors put the gap at 2.2 times. That difference is unexplained and worth knowing before you price construction work off a maintenance rate.
Where the Canadian numbers are thin, said plainly
The brackets have no stated methodology. The site behind them is editorial, not a marketplace with its own data, and it does not mention tax. It is the only Canadian source for per-visit lawn prices that is not a lead marketplace owned by a competitor.
The hours come from the price, not from a reading. No Canadian source prints how long a mow takes. The calculator divides each bracket’s typical price by the C$63.75 charge-out median to get person-hours, so the brackets and the charge-out rate agree by construction. That agreement is not a check.
Worked example
A large lawn on a fortnightly round, first cut of the season. Canada has the steepest schedule step of the five markets — half again for fortnightly — and the overgrown cut adds 40% on top. The typical quote lands at C$170 (range C$155–C$190) for about 2.8 person-hours, against a cost near C$102 at the sample’s C$29 an hour. That leaves C$68 a visit, a 40% margin before GST/HST. The “Fill with sample data” button loads this exact job.
What this calculator does not price
Installation and hard landscaping, which the association prices separately at a C$72.50 median. Seasonal contracts. Fertilising, aeration and clean-ups, all sold as their own lines. Quote those from your own records.
