Australian lawn prices come from one marketplace with a stated but mixed methodology: platform data blended with external research and inflation adjustments, which the source says outright and which cannot be unpicked. The calculator above uses its brackets and borrows the schedule step from the United States, because no Australian source prints one.
How the calculator works
- Lawn size picks the bracket. Four brackets of mown area in square metres.
- Schedule raises the price. Weekly is the base, about 1.34 times for fortnightly and 1.61 for four-weekly — borrowed, see below.
- Overgrown adds about 40% on top, as its own line.
- Your state. Prices are adjusted by a state labour-cost index. New South Wales carries the highest, about 11% above the national average.
- Your economics. “Your costs and margin” works in person-hours and nets GST out before comparing price to cost.

Where the Australian numbers are thin, said plainly
The schedule step is borrowed. No Australian source prints a price by frequency. The American figures are read across six lawn sizes on one page, which is why they were chosen, but they are not Australian and the Canadian reading is 20–30% steeper again. If you sell fortnightly rounds, check your own step before trusting this one.
One source carries the brackets. Its methodology is stated and mixed: marketplace data, external research and inflation adjustment, combined without a split. A second source gives city ranges that agree with the level.
The award rate is a floor, not a market wage. No Australian source publishes what a mowing employee is actually paid, so the calculator uses the award. A legal floor is the one figure that cannot be too low, and it means your real labour cost is probably higher than the default.
Worked example
A large lawn on a fortnightly round, first cut of the season. The schedule step here is borrowed from the United States, so treat the fortnightly figure as the weakest part of this example. The typical quote lands at A$250 including GST (range A$175–A$320) for about 4.5 person-hours. About A$23 of it is GST, so A$227 stays with you. At A$27 an hour, the first whole dollar above the award floor of A$26.44, the visit costs about A$150. That leaves A$77 a visit, a 34% margin on the price without GST. The “Fill with sample data” button loads this exact job.
What this calculator does not price
Landscaping and construction work, a different trade with a different rate. The seven job types in the table above beyond mowing. Seasonal contracts. Quote those from your own records.
