New Zealand water blasting has one operator publishing rates by area and several publishing whole-job prices. The calculator above prices from the published area rates, and where a surface has no New Zealand area rate it uses this market’s own hourly band over the production rate — not an overseas figure converted.
How the calculator works
- Surface sets the band. Driveway, house wash, deck or patio, and fence each carry their own band. Picking one fills in the area that surface typically covers.
- Area scales it, and the minimum catches small jobs. The published NZ$215 minimum binds anything under about 60 square metres.
- Soft wash and soil move the quote. A soft wash adds about 22% where it is a choice — not on a house wash, where it is already the method and already in the band.
- Your region. We found no reliable data on price differences between New Zealand regions, so every region uses the national figures.
- Your economics. “Your costs and margin” turns area into hours, adds chemicals, machine wear and travel, and shows what the market price leaves you before GST.
Typical New Zealand water blasting rates in 2026
| Surface | Per square metre | Whole job |
|---|---|---|
| Driveway | NZ$3.00–NZ$4.00 | NZ$120–NZ$249 small, NZ$199–NZ$349 standard, NZ$299–NZ$499 large |
| House wash | NZ$0.50–NZ$1.49 | NZ$249 for 50–80 m², NZ$279 for 121–180 m², NZ$450+ above 550 m² |
| Deck or patio | NZ$3.00–NZ$4.00 | NZ$180–NZ$400 timber deck, NZ$159–NZ$329 medium patio |
| Fence | NZ$2.80–NZ$4.66 | not published |
Crews bill NZ$30–NZ$90 an hour, NZ$70 typical. Published minimum NZ$215. All figures exclude GST.
Where the New Zealand numbers are thin, said plainly
Driveway and deck carry the same rate, and that is a reading rather than an oversight. The one operator that prices by area charges NZ$3 per square metre for both, and puts general water blasting at NZ$3–NZ$4. Overseas data would have put a deck well above a driveway. New Zealand’s published pricing does not separate them.
The house wash band is not a New Zealand reading. Operators here price a house wash by a ladder of house sizes, not by area, so the band comes from this market’s own hourly rate over the production rate.
The minimum is one operator’s floor. See the FAQ above — three other operators sell items below it.
What moves the price
- Cladding type. Painted weatherboard and plaster want low pressure. That is not an upsell here, it is the correct method, and it is already in the house wash band.
- Two-storey walls. Ladders or a longer wand. Quote the top of the house wash band.
- Moss and lichen. Common in a wet climate and it needs dwell time, not more pressure.
- Oil stains and sealing. Sold as their own lines: a heavy oil stain runs NZ$220–NZ$500 and sealing NZ$100–NZ$250.
Worked example
A 186 m² house wash with heavy algae on one wall. Soft washing is the method for most New Zealand cladding, so the band already prices it and no uplift is added. The quote lands on the NZ$215 minimum charge (range NZ$215–NZ$260) against a cost near NZ$140, leaving NZ$75 a visit, a 35% margin before GST. The minimum sets this price, not the area: at the published area rate the wash alone would come in below NZ$215. The “Fill with sample data” button loads this job.
What this calculator does not price
Gutters are sold per linear metre or from a flat NZ$159, not per area. Roof treatment starts around NZ$99 but nobody publishes how long a roof takes, and a calculator that turns area into hours cannot honestly price a surface whose hours nobody publishes. Quote those from your own records.
The calculator gives you the number. For typical rates and how to build a quote, read our US pressure washing pricing guide. Its rates are in US dollars.
