New Zealand car grooming has one operator publishing a full ladder of packages across two cities, and that is both the strength and the limit of this page. Prices are read; the size multipliers are not, because the operator tariffs by four vehicle sizes and publishes only the smallest.
How the calculator works
- Package and size pick the cell. Three tiers by three sizes.
- Mobile adds about 22%, and brings a travel cost.
- Condition moves the quote up the range. The operator prices excess pet hair by the hour, at NZ$68, and nothing else about condition.
- Your region. Every region uses the national figures. The operator’s own two cities differ by 17–18%, and that band is already the width of the range; we found no reliable data for the other regions.
- Your economics. “Your costs and margin” shows what the grid leaves you before GST.
Typical New Zealand grooming prices in 2026
| Package | Smallest vehicle | Medium | Large |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry — exterior groom | NZ$89–NZ$105 | NZ$120–NZ$142 | NZ$135–NZ$160 |
| Standard — full detail | NZ$302–NZ$355 | NZ$408–NZ$479 | NZ$459–NZ$540 |
| Premium — cut and polish | NZ$531–NZ$627 | NZ$717–NZ$846 | NZ$807–NZ$953 |
Operators bill NZ$40–NZ$160 an hour on this work. Minimum around NZ$89. All figures exclude GST.
Why each band is exactly the operator’s two cities
The low end is Christchurch and the high end is Wellington, the same operator, same package. Wellington runs 17–18% above Christchurch on all three items that appear in both lists. That is a read band rather than a width borrowed from another market — which is what an earlier draft of this table used, and it produced margins that no market supports.
Where the New Zealand numbers are thin, said plainly
One operator, two cities. Everything on this page except the size multipliers comes from Clean Car Collective. No second New Zealand price list was found in two collection passes.
Prices are “starting figures”. The operator says so. Treat them as the floor of each package rather than its middle.
The size multipliers are Australian. Measured on a complete eight-package grid in Adelaide, applied here because no New Zealand column above the smallest is published. Recorded as an assumption.
The top tier’s hours are an extrapolation. The operator prints four to eight hours across its packages. The calculator scales hours with price, which puts a cut and polish on a large vehicle above that range. Judge the hours on that job yourself rather than taking ours.
Worked example
A large vehicle, premium tier — a cut and polish — mobile, heavily soiled. The quote lands at NZ$1,090 (range NZ$1,040–NZ$1,145) against a cost near NZ$605, leaving NZ$485, a 44% margin before GST. Two cautions on this one: the size multiplier is Australian rather than New Zealand, and the hours behind a large-vehicle correction are an extrapolation past the 4–8 the operator prints. Judge the hours yourself. The “Fill with sample data” button loads this exact job.
What this calculator does not price
Ceramic coating, sold in three tiers from NZ$542 to NZ$867 with no hours published. Two-stage cut and polish at NZ$765, a different job from the single-stage in the premium tier. The operator’s separate interior tiers, whose hours are not published at all. Quote those from your own records.
