Australian duct cleaning is the shortest job of the four markets that sell it — one and a half to three hours for a house against three and a half in North America — and the cheapest per outlet. The calculator above prices from the outlet count, because that is how both Australian sources price it.
How the calculator works
- Count every outlet. Supply outlets and returns both.
- Each extra system is a second setup, at A$150–A$300 and close to an hour.
- Add-ons are their own lines. Dryer vent, furnace, blower, coil.
- Your state. Prices are adjusted by a state labour-cost index, with an A$260 minimum under it. New South Wales carries the highest index, about 11% above the national average.
- Your economics. “Your costs and margin” works in crew hours and nets GST out before comparing price to cost.
Typical Australian duct cleaning prices in 2026
| Item | Price | Unit |
|---|---|---|
| Outlet or return, labour included | A$25–A$40 | each |
| Additional outlet over the base | A$10 | each |
| Additional HVAC system | A$150–A$300 | each |
| Dryer vent | A$80–A$160 | job |
| Furnace, blower or coil | A$60–A$150 | unit |
| Antimicrobial fogging | A$75–A$225 | system |
By outlet count, one operator prices to 6 outlets at A$200–A$300, 7–10 at A$300–A$400 and 11 and up at A$400–A$600. Another starts at A$260 for five. Whole jobs run A$200–A$700 with a flat rate of A$300–A$500 most common. Minimum charge A$260. All figures include GST.
Where the Australian numbers are thin, said plainly
Two operators, both Melbourne. The per-outlet rate, the A$10 marginal outlet, the flat rate and the duration all come from Melbourne. Nothing was found for Sydney, Brisbane or Perth on this trade.
The advertised hourly does not fit its own jobs. A$50–A$100 an hour against jobs of A$200–A$700: the top of the rate at three hours reaches only the bottom of the job range. The same pattern appears in three of the four markets here, which is why this calculator prices from the count and treats the advertised hourly as the weaker reading.
The award is a floor, not a market wage. No Australian source publishes what a duct technician is paid, and no country has an occupation code for the trade. Your real labour cost is probably above the default.
The shortest duration of the four markets is one operator’s claim. One and a half to three hours against three and a half from an Ontario contractor’s published ladder. If Melbourne jobs really are that much faster, margins here are the best of the four; if the reading is optimistic, they are not.
Worked example
A large house with 22 outlets, two systems, two appliance units, a dryer vent and a long-overdue system. The typical quote lands at A$1,615 including GST (range A$1,315–A$1,915) for about 8.5 crew hours. About A$147 of it is GST, so A$1,468 stays with you. At the sample’s A$73 a crew hour, the job costs about A$885 with equipment, supplies, the drive and overhead. That leaves A$583, a 40% margin on the price without GST. The hours are the shortest of the four markets and they are one operator’s claim, so this margin is the least certain of the four. The “Fill with sample data” button loads this job.
What this calculator does not price
Commercial ventilation, a different standard and a different model. Mould remediation in the building. Inspection, because five sources across the markets give five incompatible levels. Quote those from your own records.
